Pain in knee cap when kneeling

Any ideas what this could be?

When I kneel I get a pain in one knee that feels exactly like I have knelt on a small stone something hard. In fact for a couple of days I thought that's what it was. When I realised that it wasn't anything I'd knelt on I had a look at my knee but can't see any lump or bruise.

I've been doing a lot of work on the house and spending a lot of time on my knees, so could it be something I've done to it?

Mainly 'cos it's Saturday evening, but I probably will.

I just wondered if this was something so common that someone would say, 'yes, I had that................ '

I've always had so much help from the lovely peeps on MSE.
  • Actually I get that sometimes, not every time I kneel down, but just sometimes and I always look to see what ive knelt on lol. I keep meaning to get it checked out too
Finally, I can see you crystal clear

Is it housemaid's knee? Go to the doctor and get it checked out.

It sounds like you have a loose body in your knee. Ask your GP to refer you to an Orthopaedic Surgeon who will probably offer you an MRI to diagnose, or an arthroscopy, when they insert a small camera into your knee and remove the loose body (this is done laparascopically, also known as keyhole surgery).

Has this come on recently? Can you do full leg extensions without any problems? If untreated, then it can potentially cause more damage to the knee over the long term. I would recommend to get it checked out. Don't let the GP fob you off!! Insist your GP to refer you to be seen by an Orthopedic Surgeon.
