Advice needed: Delayed refund by the airline

All

I need some advice and guidance on how I should respond to the issue below:

I booked a Qantas flight from London to Singapre for my business trip, but we had to cancel it due to change in plans. It's been over a month now and airline has not processed the refund yet. The fare was over £5k and my credit card bill is due end of this month.

I have spoken with the airline customer services and also sent them an email. They responded by saying that their London office has been instructed to refund the ticket.

As this was a business expense and I can't claim this through expenses, I don't have enough cash to settle my credit card bill by due date. Please can someone advise me the best course of action and my rights in case they don't repay by due date.

Thanks.

  • Speak (write) to the credit card company. Explain what you have done and request a chargeback.

i recently cancelled a ticket and was told the refund could take anything up to 12weeks. It actually took about 2.

you don't say how long ago you cancelled.
You also don't have to clear the credit card bill in full. pay the minimum payment just now and then the full amount when the money is refunded. I realise you'll have interest to pay but that's not really the problem of the airline.

Check their t&cs to see how long a refund will take.

Yeah I know its my problem, probably my fault that I booked my flight...
Would you mind sharing some more views about how these small prints / T&Cs are governed and whether they are free to state whatever they like in their T&Cs. I'm struggling to understand why their systems can't process refunds automatically if they are all set to take payment instantaneously... It's probably the same system taking and returning the money, so why delay on just one side only? I would be surprised if airlines not regulated in the way they deal with customers' refunds / cancellations.
