Help Regarding O2 Needed Please!!!

Hi, im new to the forums but dicided to post as iv got a big problem with o2 at the moment!
I took out an 18 month contract with o2 in Jan 08, In august 08 i phoned there customer service (which is the worst i have ever dealt with!!) and asked how much i owed to them, they said i owed them £96 which i then paid off over the phone. 2 weeks later i recieved a letter from o2 to say i owe them £112.00, so i called them up again and questioned this amount, but after being explained how it was owed, i paid it off thinking i would then be up to date on my account! Then 3 weeks after that i recieved a letter from o2 to say i owed £210!! over the next few weeks i phoned up about 6 times to ask how it was possible to owe this and none of the advisors could give me a solid amswer, with 2 even admitting it was wrong! I then decided to send a letter to head office and after 3 weeks I heard back from them only for them to say they can help me repay the amount in installments, and not mentioning how i even owed this amount! With all of this going on i thought my acount would have been placed on hold while it was in despute, but instead i recieved a letter from o2 stating that my account had now been completely closed and i owed them £567.00 for the remainder of my contract!
Now i am completely stuck and havent got a clue what to do, firstly i had a £45.00 contract, which i would have taken down to £25.00 per month had they not cancelled my whole contract, which would have made it £125.00 cheaper! and secondly a have just recieved a letter from a debt collecting agency saying the debt has been passed to them, i just feel they have been totally unfair and have given terrbile service throughout my contract, and i havent got enough money to pay this off as i have just been put down to part time hours in work!
Any Ideas on what to do next?
Thanks, Nathan

Hi biggsy
When you asked then how much you owed had you terminated the contract??
Basically you signed up to a contract that covers both the calls that you make and the cost of the phone that was for 18 months but you didn't pay after Aug (. The customer service may have been shoddy but you need the consent of both parties to the contract to terminate early without being liable for the value of the contract. Did you negotiate this?
The upshot is that you may well owe the money BUT please DON'T WORRY
You have said that you have had to go part time at work. You need to look at the impact of this on your monthly budget. If youhaven't done it already, put together a statement of affairs (www,makesenseofcards.com has a handy calculator) and see where you are left at the outurn of the month. If you are feeling brave then post it up here and we can help you make you rmoney go further.
The next thing is really to check and see if you have any other debts?? If so are you managing to pay these OK? WIll you be able to pay after your wages fall?? If you do and you think you will struggle once you have done your SOA then please don't worry in silence. Talk to us or get in touch with one of these organisations:

if your tariff was £45 a month then £45x18=£810 that you would have owed them. you can lower the tariff after 9 months of the contract to their lowest tariff which is £25, so 9 months at £45=£405 and 9 months at £25=225, meaning that the minimum you would have owed them would have been £630. if you asked how much it would be to cancel your contract before the 9 months before you could lower the tariff they would have told you the higher amount. it sounds like a miscommunication to me, as if you may have been in arrears with your bill paying and that when you asked how much you owed them they told you the amount of the arrears rather than how much you owed for the total of the contract.Mummy to
