Council Tax Liability Order...

Don't know if this the correct forum to post this in but anyway.

We had a letter this morning saying that our Council Tax was in arrears and have to pay around £148 (£54 Charge) within 14 days. The thing is my mom has been paying the bill every two weeks as arranged when she got the bill last year and I check to make sure she pays it and she has the receipts and I can't understand why they sent this letter out and now I'm scared because they got into trouble a few years ago with arrears but that was around £1800 and i had to sort it out all and it was all cleared off in October 07. The only reason I can think they would send it is because she pays it a few days late but never more than that and she pays the full amount every two weeks £38. I mean they're getting the bloody money aren't they . Does anyone know what's the best thing to do, cos I don't want bailiffs on the door again and adding outrageous charges on. I try my best to make sure this is paid and it's just not good enough.

  • If these amounts have been paid and there are receipts then you have nothing to worry about.
Why do these letters ALWAYS arrive on a Saturday morning when you can't do anything about it and ruin your weekend???? Grrrrrr.

Phone the council first thing Monday.

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.
  • I've added up all the payments made and deducted it from the full amount and there was only one more months payment to make £76 and it was all cleared so where this figure of £148 comes from I just don't know.

  • It'll be them trying to add charges probably.
Don't let it spoil your weekend.

  • What's the best way to deal with this? and can you get the charges taken off if you make an arrangement to pay?

Not sure myself but stick around, I'm sure one of the other regulars will have some advice about this.

Pretty much, have a look on the homes & mortgage thread or the utilities/tax threads, there may be some similar on there.

  • My mom went down to the council place today and has got it sorted. She's got to wait for a letter to come through but they said she can pay it all by the end of March, it's £110 now cos she paid £38 on Friday. They said that even though she had been paying it cos she was paying late it had all added up.
