Argos: 'Squeaky Bed' problem...

We ordered a metal, 4 poster bed complete with drapes from Argos in Sept 2005...and set it up in Oct 2005.

It squeaked a little from day 1, but we were so desperate to keep it, we put up with it hoping it would sort itself out.

We even placed some thin foam undernath the wooden slats base to prevent the frame from squeaking.

Now its Feb 2006 (5 months old) and my husband is refusing to sleep on it-its so noisy, the frame squeaks even when you breathe-we tried a new mattress...same problems.

We are back to using our old bed :(

I have the receipt...but will Argos give me a refund/exchange/credit note etc?

Should I ask-before going to Trading STandards?

Any help would be appreciated.

(We dont have the packaging)

As far as I know, that'd be considered faulty? It's obvious ya can't sleep with that. I think Argos should replace or refund you. Not sure if they will though, but even as goodwill they should

Have you contacted Argos to see what they say? Yeah it sounds like it would be considered faulty to me too. Have you tried putting some oil on it or something.

If Argos won't do anything, even when you quote 'warranty' ask them for the manufacturer's details, so that you can then ask the manufacturer to repair it.

We had a problem with our Divan bed (ie, one base section broke) within 1 year of purcahse. Approached the people we bought it off and they were very slow to do anything about it. Sick of waiting we went direct to the manufacturer, they complained about the retailer concerned and arranged for the base unit to be replaced.

Argos replaced it! Simple phone call did the trick - no questions asked.
