can anyone give me any further mortgage/finacial career advice

Hello again!

Well i've had a busy few months moving from b&b to the abbey! i have finished my cemap and got the last part of cefa in a few weeks. I have been trying to find a job in the mortgage or investment market as i am scaired my hard work and knowelege will soon be forgotten if i dont work within the financial feild. I can't seem to get anywhere at work and at the moment i'm just doing basic admin. I know times are hard in the mortgage/investment feild but i'm willing to accept a low salary to start with. i thought with full cemap and cefa it would give me more options. However i have applied for loads of jobs and haven't even been given a interview. I would need to work in a branch as i haven't passed my driving test yet... I really love studying and found all the work interesting, but now i'm still only paid 13k pa. And am loosing my confidence/enthusiasm. Can anyone predict when the market will turn round, Or know of any employers still recruiting...? sorry for the long post but its really making me feel down.

You havent learnt anything yet. Passing the exams is the easy part. Putting it into real world application is where it gets difficult. Especially when you realise that the generics you have been taught often dont turn out to be the best option and providers offer products that dont match generics.
However i have applied for loads of jobs and haven't even been given a interview.

    Where you are applying?

IFAs tend to look for experience and having held competent adviser status. Banks tend to look for selling experience (double glazing or any other sales role).

Thats your biggest problem. Driving licence is a must in this profession as home appointments are common. Even with bank advisers.

Can anyone predict when the market will turn round

3 or 4 years. Then 5-10 years of growth followed by another recesssion and so on. Its all cyclical.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.
  • Yes your rite about the knowledge part i don't feel like i really know anything, but feel like I'm forgetting what i learnt if that makes sense. I've applied at abbey where i work, also loads through agency's,HBOS, Alliance & Leicester, and a few others. I don't want to go straight into advising maybe supporting advisers or even admin in that area of work, or a trainee role. The thing is i cant do the diploma until I've been working as an advisor, And i know all financial advisor need this. Thank you for your advice....

Simple answer. You have not completed the Cefa exam. All the roles you will be applying will be for trainee roles. Unfortunately due to this time you will be stuck in your role due to all banks only employing people with full CAS (competent advisor status).

I actually laugh sometimes about the so called CAS required as many banks will sign this off in 6 weeks or less. Some banks have even caught on that they will not sign you off until 2 years have passed. LOL. Reason being that once you have this, the world is your oyster! More money.

Anyway, complete the Cefa course. Cemap is rubbish at this moment of time. Just holding that will not get you in the door.

As Dunstonh says, you do not have the training or experience for the Financial planning role / financial advisor role. This will be a big hindrance. Your only main opportunity now as this recession will be to ask about in the abbey.
Motto: 'If you don't ask, you don't get!!'

Remember to say thank you to people who help you out!

Also, thank you to people who help me out.
