Just wondered who has applied to the abbey for a mortgage recently and how long did it take from filling in the application to getting a decision. I have been waiting 5wks in all so just wondered if this is the average time it takes.
Thankyou

We waited over a month only to be turned down.
If you browse through the forum I believe there are a fair few people having the same kind of difficulty regarding timescales0 -
Oh no,
We just went to a broker and been accepted in principal on Thurs. Handed payslips etc in and he said we should hear on Weds nxt week. Bloody hope so, as ours will take longer due to transfer of deeds etc.
I hope they get a valuer out quick and we are remortgaging and doing additional borrowing of 30k!Wedding on hold until 2011. Mummy to DD1 3/2/6 DD2 5/10/7! Mortgaged to my eyeballs!0 -
We were offered a mortgage in principle and promised the following week that we would get a decision but still waiting its so frustrating.0

I have a friend who works for Abbey as a mortgage underwriter. She said last year Abbey made lots of people redundant but now they are very busy that they are looking at having to recruit (according to my friend) and my friend is having to do overtime to keep up with her work load so perhaps that is the reason for the delay although that is no help to you if you are waiting for an answer.February 2013 NSD - 40

Thanks for your reply, our broker had told us the same that they had a lot of work on and are short of staff due to making redundancies but i was thinking is she just saying it. So now you have said this it does make me feel a bit better,.

I hope you are OK, but I have to say that on the banking and savings side I have found Abbey completely useless over the last 18 months. I have had several very frustrating experiences and I won't go near them for anything any time soon. I am sure staff try hard but they have been left completely under-resourced as far as I can see. End result, pathetic customer service.0
