The De Vere thread - there are 19 and 29 pound rooms in a lovely looking village outside oxford. It's a bit hit and miss with dates.

The Malmaison's standards had slipped a bit last time i stayed but it's still a very beautiful and unique hotel worth staying at. Presumably the one pound rooms are not in the actual cells but it's certainly wort seeing if you can upgrade - the experience of staying in a cell is memorable!

I looked at the De Vere site, but the hotels are a bit out of the way. I dont drive & wanted to do a bit of sightseeing so thought being based where there is more public transport would be better. The hotels looked lovely though
