Anyone heard of Response credit managent?

I've had a letter through the post today saying it's a letter of outstanding debt. It says it's been issued on behalf of Aktiv Kapital (uk) Ltd (GE Capital Glob.Cons.Fin.Ltd)

For starters my name is wrong, The title is Mrs (I'm a Miss) initial is correct but Surname is D**** (mine is B****).

Then it say;s my debt is for £257.67 and I don't even know of any debt that I have for that amount The only GE thing I've ever had was a debenhams card last year which I used once to the amount of about £80 to get the 15% off and I paid it all in full and cancelled it straight away.

My sister thinks that it's not official and can't be classed as being for me as the name is incorrect.

I don't want to ring the number incase it's one of those dodgy numbers that charge ridiculous amounts!

I don't know if I should worry or just leave it, can anyone help? Thanks in advance

I found this, it appears to be a commercial organisation which has now launched a customer revenue management arm (debt collectors). I think I would ignore it, wrong name and not your debt is a good start.

If you know the debt is not yours then do nothing. They are probably "fishing" which is illegal - i.e they have a debt, can't trace the owner, so are sending letters to people with the same or similar name, in the hope that someone will ring up to question the debt and MH (and other DCA's) will then get nasty and frighten that person into paying for a debt that is not theirs?

Just imagine how many people they make money out of by those methods when they buy debts for pennies anyway?

My advice, just ignore and if anything further happens, post back on here.

Fatbelly... it looks as though it's those exact same people so I shall definately be making a complaint!

I knew the debt wasn't mine but I didn't feel like I could just ignore it just incase it was something from years ago that I couldnt remember! These people have you doubting yourself....it's horrible! I feel sorry for the people that have been caught up in this mess and paid money out. I know if it wasn't for this site I may well have been one of those people!
