I need to transfer some money, about £4000 to my son's Australian account. What's the best (IE cheapest ) way to do this?

Hi, just open an account with one of the big currency companys like www.ozforex.com and put your sons account details as beneficiary. You then just transfer the money to ozforex and they transfer it in dollars to your sons Oz account. They will also offer a much better rate than any high street bank.
They are really helpful (I recently lived in Oz for a while and transferred some very large amounts (and some small ones) back and forward and they were great every time)
