how long to grill pork?

hey

please excuse my ignorance here, but I have some pork chops, want to grill them, but how long for? approximately?

they are cheapy-cheapy ones (99p for 3) so probably not the best quality in the world, does that mean I need to grill them longer/shorter?

also, i realise that its more important to check its cooked properly rather than the time being right, so how do i check a chop? i know for bigger bits of meat you have to check that juices run clear...does the same apply to chops?

and, another stupid question, but i never do mash and can't remember what my mum does! when making mash potatoes, do you add milk, butter, both?

TIA!

I like my mashed potato with lots of butter and a little milk (plus salt and pepper!!!).
With the chops, it depends on the size of them, will prob be a case of stick them under the grill, turn after about 10 mins and see how they go, the thinner they are, the less time they will need. I normally stick a knife in the centre and see if any blood runs out, if its clear/none, then they are prob done.

mash the potatoes with pepper & butter, then beat in some hot milk & they'll go lovely & fluffy. just add a little milk at first, then more if you need it till you get the texture you want. taste them & add salt along with the millk if they need seasoning

also bear in mind, some varieties are better suited to mashing than others, it usually tells you on the bag if you get them from the supermarket

my method with chops etc is very unscientific, I prod them in the middle with my finger, if the meat's firm they're done. if you try it, I recommend checking by sticking a knife in & looking to see if it's done, I don't want to be responsible for anyone being ill ... although my family has survived unscathed :D
