What we do know, however, is that UK regulation failed. Huff and puff all you like about it having failed elsewhere, but that doesn't address the issue of its absolute failure in the UK.

lol - did I not say that Brown had failed in the UK? What that does not explain is how if its all about UK regulation how regulation failed everywhere else all at the same time. Either the entire developed world copied Brown, or regardless of what kind of regulatory framework was in place this crash swept them all away. Thats not excusing UK regulation - which was clearly insufficient - its pointing out that UK regulation does not explain a global crash.

You're obviously in the same place as chriswebb - the UK in a snowglobe blissfully unaffected by the rest of the world.

I'm not so sure of the second paragraph. I take your historical point but if this year continues as it has started the election campaign will be fought against a backdrop which starkly compares the out of work or frightened private sector workforce against the largely secure, still getting payrises and expensively pensioned public sector. Given that there aren't that many Tory voters in the public sector workforce, it might be a very popular platform to campaign for the abolition of public sector final salary pensions and a pay freeze! Already the local Tory council here has blamed much of the council tax rise on having to set aside £1m for pension deficits and they have a point!

I've never understood final salary pension schemes anyway. Surely it's just pot luck how you're doing when you retire? Imagine working full time 90% of your working life, and for one reason or another you need to go part time near the end, then you've got all that money you've paid in flushed down the drain.
Boris Johnson voted against Brexit in the Commons, all to become leader of the Conservative Party. Fall for it and you deserve everything you get.

They don't work that way. Part time service is counted as part of a years service but at full time salary.

You're correct, you don't know how final salary schemes work. Should have sopped after your fist sentence.

Seriously mate, what's the point in trolls like you coming on here? These boards are for people who want to have conversations in a grown up manner, and yes, sometimes people actually learn something (not you obviously because you think you're perfect). It's a good thing your post wasn't aimed at someone seeking moneysaving advice, I'd have been straight to admin if it was (I'm not usually a grass but when someone posts something they wouldn't dare say in real life from behind the safety of their computer then what else can you do?)

Pity you didn't "rip my face off", a ban would have been nice.

Your post is pointless and inflammatory. Lots of other people post similar which is also wrong but this did stick out as stirring for no obvious reason.
