No, what what kind of society do we live in? Should we punish people for making mistakes by letting them die on the streets?

Perhaps not by letting them staying in million dollar houses that they lied to get, eh? Who on earth said anything about dying on the streets??? You have a very warped and peculiar view of what the USA is like. Have you ever been there?
  • I think a big difference is that media organisations here would never run stories demanding that we throw "losers" out onto the streets to starve. We're a bit more civilised than our American cousins with regards to basic human dignity.

you mean we are a bit more overrun with liberal leftie luvvies who want to constantly throw money at these losers so they can feel good about themselves.

if someone lied about their earnings or employment to get a loan they now can't repay, then they should be left to die in the street.

however, if they were truthful, but now their circumstances have changes through no fault of their own, they should be helped.

even then, nothing to stop people taking out insurance for these circumstances.

Note that the comment about people dying on the streets was a question to you, not a statement.

And who has lied and as a result been given the right to stay in million dollar houses? We were talking about those who've made bad investments and need state help as a result. You seem to have seemlessly transitioned to a 'benefit scounger' debate - focus please.

And yes, I've been all over the USA, many times.

I fail to see how it is relevant.

That is what Obama is doing. People who borrowed too much money on oversized houses are getting free cash. The prudent get zilch.

The socialists have dumbed down education so that the lumpen proletariat don't notice/understand. As long as they have their booze, Corrie and footy and never have to think, 70% of the population is happy.

Tell me about it. Happy, normal, balanced people enjoying the simplicities of everyday life and not worrying too much about things that they can't really do anything about anyway. Makes me sick too.

Having recently moved to the takeaway/chav capital of the UK, also known as Hull, I'd say it was nearer 99%

In your strange mind do you see the 'left' as throwing money at people who took loans with false pretence and the 'right' as leaving someone to "die in the street"?

    What is a "luvvie" exactly?

Private Eye is written from a left-wing perspective. They are indignant, not that the money is being wasted, but that it is going to giant capitalist companies

You missed out the bit about that being your opinion, rather than fact.

In my opinion they are just indignant about waste, and one of the few media outlets in this country who actually investigate and point out the huge waste perpetrated by Government and their assorted hangers on.

According to The Bumper Book of Government Waste, it's £101bn.

That's about £1,683 for every UK resident per year, or 17.2% of public spending.
