Tesco Bulk Buying Policy - Easter Eggs 3 for £2.50

Anyone ever heard of this before? Was in Tesco today - wanted to buy 120 Easter Eggs for a Youth organisation - Put the eggs in trolley, got to checkout only to get a tap on the shoulder - "Sorry sir, you cant buy those, you can have 10" - I asked why "Company bulk buying policy" came the reply! Now, I have bought alot of multiples before, such as 140 tubes of mini eggs last year, 60-odd packets of felt tips plus other stuff - Never been stopped before, never heard of the policy before - No signs up - Nothing -
I was asked which ones i would like - i said all of them! No sir - company policy. I asked could i buy 10, leave the shop, come back in buy another 10 & so on. Yes came the reply, so why can i buy all at once - Company Bulk buying policy sir -
So, Tescos have Cadburys Easter eggs at 3 for £2.50, but as long as you dont buy more than 10!

there is a company policy about multiple items in my store its only 6 items because its a small store.
to be honest though they dont usually enforce this and it sometimes depends on the store you go to and the sales assistant that serves you.
i think that you were just unlucky to get a jobsworth on this occasion!!
HTH.In the end, we decide if we're remembered for what happened to us or for what we did with it0 -
The policy is to ensure availability for other customers and to stop convenience store-type owners coming in and buying in bulk to see on. It's usually at the discretion of the manager, but for an offer that is bound to be popular like the easter egg one it's not suprising they wouldn't want 1 person buying 120 - they are often more understanding if you give them advance warning so they can ensure enough availability.0

Tescos have had a bulk buy policy for many years. I have purchased in bulk before for school etc. I have found that if you speak to the Manager before hand and explain they are happy to waiver the rules. I have always done this regardless of where I shopped. HTHNice to save.0

What happens if you try putting them through the self service checkout? The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water
And I look like a tramp and tramps like us

surely you can't get the offer if you get 10? as you would need to buy 9 or 12 to get the offer... I think they're flawed in this one, although I would have been a pain and kept buying 9 boxes until they got the pointIf you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0

I agree with stitch.... ask the manager and he will more than likley order them in for you.....Life is like a box of chocolates........

It probably would have helped if you had gone in and explained what you were going to do and why you were doing it first, instead of filling a trolley with easter eggs and going to straight to the till. You have got to admit that is a bit strange to most people.
I agree that these procedures are in place for a reason, but they would probably have let you do it if you had explained what you were doing.
I could imagine if I went in to buy one easter egg and the person in front of me had just emptied the entire shelf, I would not be at all happy.0 -
As already mentioned, it is there to protect availability for all customers. Please see countless other threads complaining of poor availability in supermarkets on special offer lines...
Order them at the customer service desk. Should be no problem, happens every Easter.Who or what was I before you came in to my life
I am not sure0 -
I have to back up what others have said.
I went in to Asda specially yesterday to get 3 of the £1 Easter eggs. None on the shelves! I wasn't happy and would have been even more annoyed if someone had filled their trolley.0
