Hi all, hope I'm posting in right place, if not would Mods kindly move -
I'm hoping to apply for a local post of exam invigilator over the summer months however it's been a long time since I had to apply for employment. I've updated my CV accordingly but post asks for a cover letter - apart from my reference addresses I've no idea what to write in it
Would want it to be one that gets noticed so any ideas would be gratefully recieved please

I don't know if there are any hard and fast rules. But when I write covering letters I try to make them fairly short and consise, just a couple of simple paragraphs outlining why I am interested in the job and why they should hire me! Probably will stand out if you sound like you know a little about the company and the role you are applying for... so well worth spending a few minutes researching the company you are applying to join and dropping it casually into the covering letter.
Basically view the covering letter as your opportunity to encourage them to look at your CV and then hopefully interview you!0 -
Hi Ayla. I would start with 'please find enclosed etc........' then, for an exam invigilator (which I did for a number of years), I would state that I am a mature woman, (any children?), a team worker, understand confidentiality, reliable and flexible in my working hours.
Like bumblebee says, keep it concise, they don't want an essay, just something that makes them want to read your cv.
If you are applying to a school, they are generally crying out for help. Colleges use invigilators all year round, daytime and evening, but you may find there are less opportunities there.
Good luck with it. Fingers xAlways look on the bright side of life ....la la la la la la la la0 -

Previous posts are all great tips. I'd also add a sentence to try and get across my interest. 'I am very excited about the opportunity bla bla bla'.Determined to be a thrifty Mama!0

Short and concise is definitely the key. Apart from that it really depends what kind of competition you are likely to be up against and on your experience - whether or not you can call yourself experienced, and don't be afraid to make things sound better than they would normally (without lieing)0
