Has anyone used Christians against poverty debt help service?

They were brilliant when Calamity needed support. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

I think mumoftwins and bountiful both used them and were very positive about them.
In fact I can't remember anything negative being said.
They are very hands-on and their local reps spend a lot of time with their clients. Most of the more technical advice comes through the reps from their HQ in Bradford.
Please let us know how you get on.0 -
Thanks for posting this. Think I will look them up, as the ones I have been to and tried to get help from have been a waste of time. Sorry, but they have. Except CCCS, who weren't.Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.

Hi,
As fatbelly says I use CAP and cannot recommend them highly enough :T The best call I ever made was to CAP, they have been such a great support both with my finances and emotionally (I was a wreck:o).
I found that they didn't judge me in anyway at all, it was such a relief when the Centre Manager came to call and took all the paperwork away saying that I no longer needed to worry CAP would deal with it from then on.
In my case (I wasn't working) I ended going BR which they dealt with for me, all I had to do was check the paperwork and sign and save for the fees.
A CAP rep comes to see you and within about 10 days a financial statement is prepared for you so that you know how much you have to pay into your CAP account each month/week. They speak to all the creditors and arrange an affordable monthly payment which takes the pressure off you immensley. If your creditors ring you just say that CAP are dealing with it now and put the phone down, if they write to you then just send the paperwork into your Account Manager in Bradford and they deal with it
.
By paying into your CAP account you then know how much you have left to actually live on each month - much easier!
Good luck and keep us posted xxChristians Against Poverty - www.capuk.org0 -
I ended going BR which they dealt with for me
Great news. That's the only 'bad' thing I found with CCCS. They were very keen to suggest BR on me whenever they got the chance I felt like they were pushing it on me at times. And then I was advised on another website when I asked about it, whether it would be a good thing for me to do and they strongly advised not to because of my situation right now. And I don't have what you'd call a 'large' debt. Wasn't worth it. Everything else, though, they were okay with.
Anyway.Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Hi - I had been trying to manage my own debts with National Debtline for a few months - and a friend put me in the direction of CAP - a couple of people came round very quickly and went through everything with me - their system really does work. I also did a CAP Money Course which is great too - but not available everywhere. I am not a Christian - and they do hope that you will be converted - but only because they have benefitted so much themselves from their faith in God. Very supportive and practical service - I am still using the CAP account even though I have paid off my debts, because I am on a low income and the CAP account helps me to keep control of my spending!
They are, like all the debt agencies, under pressure from the volume of people asking for help - but, like you, the face-to-face support was what I needed, and I was not disappointed. Give them a go - you can always opt out if you decide it's not for you. Good luck!Debt free by 22 January 2009 - thanks to an unexpected inheritance - take heart - it DOES HAPPEN!0
