Fed up, P*ssed off, why do i bother working?

I have not received any money at all for work done for nearly 7 weeks:eek:

I am broke - barely a penny to my name and i have to feed a family of 4, buy petrol for work and pay the bills. I am soooooooo mad. I checked my bank account today to see if some monies owed had gone in via bacs (on a thursday only from a specific Govt dept) and there is nowt there...not a bean, zero!

I won't panic, I am owed it and it will come in...eventually but by then we could have starved to death or had to move into a tent!

This really sucks. Now what shall I say to the tax man?......

Answers on a postcard please.

Invoices to this dept are raised, sent in to them and they have to approve them and then pay the invoice by bacs. They are set fees. You do not know exactly when they will pay but they say it should be within 28 days of receipt of the invoice - and it falls on a Thursday cos that is the published settlement date.

I wonder what would happen if they had their salary delayed!

We have had lots of excuses over recent months from moving offices, shutting offices down, losing invoices, asking for more information when they have it all already, staff shortages etc.

    Its a crock!

I have billed stuff in April last year and some earlier than that and still not been paid for them.

Very annoying. Cashflow is a necessity...I wish they understood that.

I wish I could do or say something to make it better. You have been working so hard at paying that tax debt, and don't deserve to be left high and dry.

I hope that things sort themselves out for you pretty darned quickly x

Oh Hypno, I am reliant on being paid either by a central government dept or a local govt dept generally. They are painfully slow and reminder after reminder gets spat out by our works computer system and issued to push them along.

I have a bit of other private work which I am hoping will pay out soon but its not a huge amount but will just keep me ticking over...that is if they pay the invoices quickly.

I can be paid at any time by the local govt dept, they pay by cheque not bacs.

I hate this feast or famine ethic they see to work to.

Its the frustration that gets to me. I want to be debt free so I a working like a dog to get there but i feel like I am being sabotaged.

I told you my £30k challenge would grind to a halt

More jam sandwiches for lunch at work. Good job I like them :p

I used to be a trustee for a charity that did some work contracted by a government department and it took them months to pay invoices we raised with them... It took contacts in higher departments having words on our behalf before some things were paid 8 or 9 months after the invoices were sent in!

  • I know exactly how you feel. But for another reason entirely. :D
Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.
  • if past stated payment date, i would chase them, and HARD- especially if (as i suspect) this is for the NHS? they are notorious for being sluggish.

do they have a compalints procedure, or contact page online? make a note of everyone you spoke to, and ask for a call reference- this wil lhelp track down any slackers!

if need be, raise a county court summons- enough of these may just jog them into paying up on time, and not take the p..

I agree - if you owed them money, you would be pushed to pay, by threats of action etc......for example, if you don't pay the taxman, who is just another government department, they get incredibly heavy.....as do council tax - another government department.

So, perhaps a "letter before action" especially for those that have had countless reminders, might be in order.

After all, if one government department doesn't pay you, you cannot pay another government department, who have the power to make you bankrupt!
