College Fees when leaving course unexpectedly

Narrow - minded, judgemental, offensive and abusive replies received from Tinkerbell - more like "Sitting on a soap-box Bell" - and Bozo, whose name depicts the man perfectly.

Only for certain courses and only by prior arrangement ie before you start the course.

Your course and arrangement is with the college. The institute set the rules regarding the course accreditation so although they say you can complete in 10 years, you could do a blend of self study, distance learning and use a number of different institutions.

Best thing to do would be to see if the college has a student advisor who may be able to negotiate on your behalf.

I think Oldernotwiser works in adult education - she may be able to offer better advice.

What were the terms and conditions attached to your course - they are usually detailed as to what happens if you leave the course early.

It's a long time since I enrolled on my Accountancy course and my employers did pay my fees, however I was made aware at time of enrollment if employers failed to pay any or part of then I would be liable.

Also my employer made me sign to say if I left the course part way through, failed to sit my exams, or left their employment within 2 years then I would be liable to reimburse the authority the fees.

Is this legal? Doesn't the goverment pay college/uni's a fee for mature learners?

Hang on. Lets back up a bit here.

You choose to do this course and you choose to pay the fees.

You got pregnant and now you want to back out (someone else could have had your place) and want someone else to pay the fees? ie the government? ie taxpayers?

Come on, lets get real here.

You made a commitment, you have to pay up or come to some sort of other arrangement.

The government has no obligation to pay this course because you got pregnant.

At the beginning of November I found out I was pregnant and spoke with my Tutor about what I could do, I decided to sit the exam in December, but then would stop attending the course, as the time demands were becoming impossible. .

Not sure what being pregnant has to do with time demands.

    Or learning for that matter.

Plenty of pregnant school kids/uni students around ;)
