I dare say they are struggling on the house building front as well? You don't see that bloke in the tv ad in the helicopter any more ??

I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.
  • Wouldn't it be nice to have everyone working together to keep things going.

I am no expert on this but the way i see it is that as greed, bad business and moral issues have caused this mess things should turn very quick or there will be lots of shops going.

Good business: The internet has nearly killed the high street and if landlords won't work with their tennants then they are not going to help themselves. There is a good chance that the landlords will be spoken well off thus leading to more people wanting to rent from them knowing that they can work together to sort any issues.

Morals: Not working with the shop owners will lead to them having to close down thus people will have their jobs taken away and adding to the pile of steaming !!!! we see in the news and media. A remark such as what was alleged is the sort of blind, selfish greedy comments from people that cause the mess we are in.

I have had to make a choice with my business as some customers have said they can't afford my services so i have agreed that i will reduce the amount i charge. I may dip out of a few pound per customer per month but i still have money coming in. I may not be a landlord but i still have bills to pay and being a greedy !!!! won't pay them.
    end the tv tax
  • The most ridiculous thing now that has came out of this is that landlords are kicking up a stink about how they've been left with loads of empty units, no notice, and have lost money now. They had a choice. It was kept no secret that if they voted against the CVA this would happen. Even tho if they voted for it there still would have been closures but not on this scale, and also they would have got notice and all landlords would of had a garaunteed rent payment for 6 months albeit it would have been on a percentage basis of each single units turnover, but it was something. Now they've got nothing, and I have no sympathy for them. Michael Ziff has said that he will talk about options and negotiate if they wish with any landlords that did vote in favour of the CVA, but those that voted against well tough s***. And good for him I say.

Daughter came home from work in Clarks today and said they were incredibly busy, selling more than at this time last year. Of course it is the last day of half term, which will have boosted sales considerably, but on the whole, she's seen no decline in sales. Interesting...

I think that's the thing though. Good quality, well-made, well-fitting (if to be worn) items will always remain popular. And Clarke's are not that much more expensive than Barrats, yet far, far superior in so many ways.

It seems it's mainly the tat that's being rooted out, which is never a bad thing.
I'll have some cheese please, bob.

You're right, but even Clark's shoes don't last forever, as I once discovered.
It's a long story, but suffice it to say my 'funeral' shoes gave up the ghost on the way to the service, probably in about their 15th year. It really is hard to appear serious and respectful with both shoes encased in brightly coloured electrician's tape. However, it was either that, or have the uppers part from the soles completely!

Handy hint: use 'normal' shoes for funerals, not a special pair you take out once in a blue moon.

It was probably something to do with the glues used..they deteriorate over time.

Many years back, we bought a batch of dead stock (unworn) platform shoes.

At that time, you couldn't buy them anywhere but they were a hot new trend. They sold out in days, dozens of pairs.

Got an irate mother on the 'phone...her daughter (16) had bought a pair, worn them to a work experience office type job and it had rained...as the soles got wet, they started to dissolve away (all 6 inches) ..by the time she had got to the office, the soles were just soggy mush.
She had to borrow a pair of blokes shoes in size 10 to wear for the day.
