Hi Everyone,
Its funny really, I was watching on the news last night that the general public was 'unsure' if the price of food in supermarkets had increased or decreased?
I think that we are all hoodwinked by the large supermarkets with these great special offers on basics ranges, has anyone cooked with a water injected piece of chicken lately?
If we are all going out less, then why don't we look for better quality foods?
Surely we must have more time to do that right?
What's so bad about spending some quality time at home with family, friends and children - I think that we are all scared as it will show others that really when it comes down to talent, we are all not as talented in say the kitchen as our parents are / were!
That's my liitle rant today, alas I have some tips to save money on food, 2 great websites, the first is www.farmshop.uk.com which helps you to find farm shops or farmers markets near you, so you are supporting local farmers and also www.MealSavers.co.uk, which tells you what is on special at the big supermarkets.
Why don't we all mix up our shopping, locally produced food is better quality, cheaper and you are supporting the community, and then take full advantage of saving websites to buy the essentials - maybe with all of that spare time we all have, we could shop at all of the big supermarkets and just buy the quality deals!

I think you're probably preaching to the converted here. And those who buy cheap food usually have their reasons.
Out of interest. Why have you been thanked 18 times in 3 posts when your post count is only 1?Life is too short to waste a minute of it complaining about bad luck. Find joy in the simple things, show your love for those around you and be grateful for all that you have.0 -
I have done a 3 posts, I am not sure where the others went, I think one was a duplicate and so it was merged into another one.

Thanks for sharing good ideas Debbie. It's a shame about all the bad press lately, because I think that a lot of the supermarkets basic ranges are actually quite good - not all, but many are! And I also find that just because something is packaged at Tesco Finest or Sainsbury's Taste the Difference, etc.. doesn't mean that it's a better quality product. I like the idea of buying from farm shops that are local, because that means that you're supporting local communities and not causing more food to be transported all around the world pointlessly. Surprisingly, it can sometimes even work out cheaper too!. The Meal Savers idea is good too, but I wouldn't go around trying to buy all the items on special every week. But as my husband and I have the choice of 3 big supermarkets here, we'd probably decide which one to go to based on the specials that we hear about, so that's quite useful too. I think the ideas that are often shared in these forums help with really good ideas on good healthy meals for families and just knowing about where the good deals are is really useful.0
