I ran a small and cosy car club for a few years. At the start I opened a Club/Charity account with Natwest.
I went in, discussed what we were doing, and although didn't put much money in - hey, we can't make people give us money! - £35, it was better than nothing. Most people donated using Paypal/Nochex but we needed an account for cash and cheques - hence we set this up.
Anyway...
When the club was sold the accoun stayed in my name all forgotten about until I got an annual statement from Natwest. Adding it to the "To-Do" list it got forgotten about until November last year when I incurred a £5.75 charge.
Then in December I got another charge for £5.75.
This is apparently an "Account Maintenance charge".
Thinking enough was enough I decided to close my account - yesterday the cheque turned up for £12.00.
Thinking this can't be right I phoned up and complained. They had no idea why I had been charged these £5.75's and said there were more on the account and a statement would arrive shortly. This came today.
I got the follow further charges..
30DEC-31JAN £5.75
8FEB-CLOSE £5.75
LAST PER'D £5.75
Am I going mad or had Natwest totally lost it? Why all the charges? This is a club/charity account which incurs no taxes or fees nor any interest.
I'm going in on Monday as customer services cant help now the account is closed but without making myself look stupid - anyone know whats gone wrong?
Thanks

Could it be that instead of a club society account they opened it up as a business?0

Well i'd never incurred charges since the account opened in 2004 and I'd never notified them of the wind-up of the club. I just walked in to close it..

I would query it with them in that case.
Just check the T&C on the account first in case these are recent amendments which I presume they would have sent you by post.0 -
I'm going into the bank today. Got all my paperwork with me.

I've not received anything in the post. On this bank account you don't even get regular statements.0 -
Missions accomplished. Went in there with all my bank statements - aka the facts. Even had details about the account itself. They (2 members of staff) agreed that no charges should have been put on a charity account.
They are getting head office to re-imburse me for the 5 sets of charges.
Happy days. 0 -
no -one should pay punitive charges regardless of if it is a charityTo be happy you need to make someone happy.0

Those were not punitive charges - just charges for a service provided.0
