Wedding Venues in Edinburgh

Good afternoon everyone,

On the lookout for an Edinburgh Venue (previously we had looked at oversea's but now feel it's too much too ask of people)

So, the date we're looking at is August 2010 and I've looked at a few venues, which although wow - are fantastic, I'm not at all impressed by their set menues, and some have a hire fee of up to £2000.

Our buget will be around £7.5k and we're looking for somewhere, although nice, not too 'posh' (not there is anything wrong with posh I would just prefer somewhere that I know my guest will all feel comfortable)

So if anyone has somewhere they thought was brilliant, or somewhere I should really avoide I would be really grateful.

Thank you :)

Susan

  • Have you looked at the universities? I've heard good things about both of them. A friend of mine is getting married at Pollock Halls owned by the University of Edinburgh a week before me, and Napier have some lovely buildings up on Craiglockhart Hill. I seem to remember there being a wedding fair at the Corn Exchange around this time last year that I went to, there were some venues with stalls there.

My venue isn't a 'proper' wedding venue, more just a hall you hire out and bring in your own caterers, decorations etc, but we have a smaller budget than you. There's also places like Marlin's Wynd and The Caves that are based in underground vaults in the Old Town.
Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!

Thank you, I've looked at The Caves, very very nice, but the menu they have is a total let down, I am finding that with a lot of places. I haven't looked at the Universitys yet though, I shall give them a bash.

One that has a good selection, 3 courses with 3 choices for around £25pp is The Stairarms Hotel in Pathhead, but I would feel a bit stange as my Uncle got married there 8 years ago, I'm not too sure how his wife would feel about it, maybe not flattered as I would hope she would take it.

  • You could maybe just drop into conversation that you'd been looking at it and see what her reaction is?

  • I came across this blog a while ago that might help http://www.weddinginedinburgh.com/edinburgh-wedding-venues.php It's not got a huge list of venues but the diary section includes the girls experiences of viewing them :)

I got married at Napier Craighouse and I couldn't fault them - price was very reasonable, the venue is really lovely inside and out, has a nice big roof terrace outside with lovely views and we were even allowed fireworks!!
