Some HR related questions

Hi.

Why would a company refuse to give me information (a statement) that may relate to myself. They said it as a matter of confidentiality, but would they have to explain on what grounds?

Is it acceptable practice to psychoanalyze people during meetings?

Thanks for your help :T

  • Is the statement you want a statement of their analysis of you?

I think we all naturally analyse people and so I can't see that anyone can say whether it is acceptable (or otherwise) to do so. Every time we attend a job interview there may be a panel asking us questions and noting our both our verbal responses and our body language. That's acceptable practice.

I suppose it depends on the purpose that any resultant statement is being put to.

Under the Data Protection Act you can apply for any information held on you (you may have to pay a fee) and I have decided to get hold of my medical records. However, I have noticed that the NHS say they can withhold information where it is considered that access to it may cause serious harm to the physical or mental health of an individual. There is no requiremnet on them to disclose the fact that information has been withheld.

If this applies to other companies then it may be that they are allowed to withhold information from you on the same grounds.

  • Thanks for the reply.

It was a statement obtained from an Investigation Meeting that I feel is being used against me. I don't know why they feel the need to withhold it.
