How low would you go?

I had an interesting phone call today from my credit card asking me to make them a final offer on a balance of £12,000.

I haven't got much money and I am only paying a £1 a month at the moment, but wondered how much they would be willing to write off. They seemed a bit desparate.
The most I could realistically scrap together would be £1000 but surely they wouldn't accept that.

Anyone had experience of this?

Not sure they would accept such a low offer, but if £1 is all you can afford and they have verified this on your statement of affairs, it would take them 83 years to get £1000 at the current rate you are paying.

    No harm in trying.

Hi l read somewhere that somebody owed 16000 and they offered to knock off 2/3, l think that was mbna, our mbna is 1500 and l think they offered about 200 off, now we know we can probably push for more , but you could ask, they can only say no!!
