Options
Hi i am currently working for a well known bank but have after a change in personal circumstances found myself struggling to pay my debts. ie credit cards , loans etc i am terrified that if i seek help i may lose my job!!
Also to make matters worse they have recently informed me that i have been overpaid i will not recieve a salary this month and have arranged to pay the difference over a set period. but this has put me in a dangerous position i fear this is final nail in he coffin, i can see everything start to spiral out of control is it possible that someone else has been in this situation.

You need to tell your line manager immediately and they will know the procedure for when staff are having financial difficulties.

Don't know what Bank you work for, but most have an advice line where you can call if you have problems.

I would be calling them and asking for help pretty pronto. Best of luck.

as above, speak to your manager/HR. Banks aren't stupid, they know a lot of their staff aren't well paid enough to be perfect financial models. Better to be upfront with them and retain the stronger position

I recently went down this route, and from experience they will help you. As I also work for a bank. Approach your line manager ASAP and tell them your circumstances.

Meetings were arranged and got given time during work hours to sit down with someone face to face , then over the phone with a debt advisory specialist. They then arranged a meeting at my local council office, with a qualified DAS advisor. The DAS advisor went through everything in detail and started proceedings.

I'm now setup and in the system with a company called Gregory Pennington, who so far have been great in my dealings with them.

But can't say enough, speak to your line manager, or go to your council office and ask to speak to a financial advisor there.

If you don't approach them and make them aware of your situation, as you work for a bank, my line manager did say if I had'nt approached, and they found out other ways, I could have been subject to disciplinary procedures.

    Hope this helps

Thank everyone for your advice, i know there is a helpline i can call i was just hoping that i could find my way out of this without the shame of having to discuss it with a line manager.

I have been feeling quite isolated and never imagined that anyone elso who works for a bank could be stupid enough to get into this mess.

But now after being overpaid and having to pay it back out of the nothing ive got left i realise i have to do something fast.

    Thanks all

Don't be ashamed, it will only lead to you burying your head in the sand. You need to own up and take ownership of your debt. You are NOT the first person working for a bank to get themselves into trouble, I promise you, and your line manager is likely to have dealt with this before!!

    Hi,

It may be no comfort to know that you are not alone, BUT you aren't.

To help get things into perspective, I suggest you contact your local Citizens Advice Burea, which can be found in the telephone book or you can google it, where you will get confidential debt advice. When you visit them do take all the relevant paperwork with you.

    Their website is: www.adviceguide.org.uk

Try to stop worrying and good luck.

Needhope, are you in a union? How about giving the a call to see what advice they have.

You are not the first & you wont be the last bank worker to get in this predicament.

    Good Luck
Thanks to all who post comps :A :T
