Would it be possible to design one yourselves? You could use 'bits' of different ones you have seen to create the perfect cake! That's what we've done and I am soo pleased with what we've chosen.

One site I've seen that I absolutely lurve the cakes on is maisiefantaisie. Brilliant designs.

If you want to decorate it yourself I found yesterday that waitrose do a chocolate cake covered in plain white icing (although only in one size)...I'd been looking for a white iced chocolate cake for ages....

For inspiration I have been loving looking at Martha Stewart Weddings (google it...)
    Good luck finding your cake!

Approach a local wedding cake maker and ask them to design a cake for you. Draw a picture of the cake that you have in your head and say "can you make this?"

And they'll probably scribble a nice number next to the lovely picture and say "can you afford this...?" :rotfl:

If you have a cake shop near you, maybe pop in and ask to see some of their previous designs. Often they will have very large portfolios of ones they have done previously - that can be a good place to start.

Doing a sketch is an excellent idea - doesn't matter if you can't draw, just try and stick something down on paper. Even a collage can help - try printing off little bits from ones you have seen then cutting out the bits you like; even showing a collection of things you like to a designer will help them form an idea of what you actually like and allow them to suggest things (doesn't have to be cakes either!). Be prepared to be a bit flexible though! - the number of time I find myself saying "yes, but we still have the laws of physics to take into account!" is untrue :o

Have a look through the Elegant section on Charm City Cakes. You might get some ideas there.

  • I agree with celyn90. I made a wedding cake for my friend last year and she was very indecisive!! I put together a little book with ribbon samples in her colour and lots of different pics of cakes i found on the internet and in magazines etc. We then had a lovely girly night sitting and going through the book writing in it what we liked about some and what we didnt like about others until we found out what was her perfect cake!!

We ended up with a three tier (all seperate on a stand) one fruit, one choc and one lemon, covered in white chocolate curls and topped with some beautiful fresh roses!!

Hope you have as much fun choosing your cake, it is a very important choice for the bride so make sure you do get what you actually want and not what the cake decorater wants you to have lol!!

    Good luck x
