Help - Egg arrears have come out of nowhere

I have posted this on the Credit Cards board as well, but thought someone here might have an answer so here goes...
Apologies in advance if it's a bit drawn out, but has anyone else experienced a similar situation who could advise me please?
I've come home from work today to find a letter from Egg on my doormat. It states my account "still" has a balance of £6 and arrears of £5.50 and requests I bring my account up to date immediately.
The weird thing is, I'm absolutely positive I transferred the full balance from the account to a 0% deal with Barclaycard last year! I do vaguely remember getting a similar letter not long after the balance transfer (I assumed the balance quoted in that letter was the interest accrued in the time it took for the balance to transfer off the account) and I have a record of making a BACS payment of £7.43 on 3rd March last year; that is the last time I even accessed the account.
I have received no communications since and this letter today is the first time I've heard from them.
Can I dispute it? If so, how? Or do I just have to bite the bullet and pay them?
Hope someone can help!
Thanks, NannyOgg
