I have just had a call too and whilst the flights and accomodation would be nice, really do not want to have to sit through a heavy sales pitch to get them! CLC themselves are ok (my parents have a timeshare with them and it has worked well for them over the years) however, it just isnt my thing. Wont class this as a win on my signature - in my opinion just another sales ploy - but good luck to anyone who is prepared to stick to their guns and take advantage - I suppose for them if they can just the the odd couple to take up membership from their presentations it is worth it!

Yep, I had one of these 'winning' calls a few weeks ago, but said a polite no. Within about 30 minutes of my 'winning' call my Mum received a call too - who also declined.

But, my in-laws attended one of these presentations (last year) brazened it out and took the holiday - BUT - while on the holiday they had to attend another presentation, which they said was very pressurised and uncomfortable!

I've also heard that the actual 'Hard Sell' happens when you're on the holiday rather than at the UK presentation, I've had a fair few of these so called wins, I just say that I know they are a timeshare company, most of the time they hang up

I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

 Hope you win a real holiday soon
  • awww bummer , sorry mate. fingers crossed you win a great joliday soon x
  • I have just taken another call from the company asking why I havent called the freephone number to arrange my holiday; I politely said that I wasnt going to take up their offer - she sounded astounded that her phoney sales pitch (probably read from a card and did include a really fake 'congratulations') hadnt worked. Keeping everything crossed for all MSE compers who may be feeling a little disappointed, that the real thing comes along soon:D

Got one of these calls 5 mins ago. I listened to what the guy had to say about being in the draw to win a holiday and £5000. Asked if my details were correct and said i'd be contacted if i'm the winner. Hmmm....who's to bet that i will get a winning phone call?! lol!

  • We got a call before Christmas after entering a comp to win a holiday in Malta (with the Maltese Tourist Board, I think). The call came from a very friendly English woman (northern accent) from a big international and reputable hotel chain which had just opened a new luxury hotel in Malta.

She said she didn't know about any competitions, so don't know how she got our details if it wasn't from there. Basically she was offering us a "free" holiday for a week in luxury accommodation with flights included, trips, transport, the lot!!! When I said we had kids, they said we'd have to pay for them, but it would still have worked out much, much cheaper than a normal holiday.

The thing that qualified us to be offered the prize, apparently, was that I was in full-time employment and that we were home-owners (a typical question from people selling timeshares, apparently).

The only catch was we had to attend one presentation while we were there. The woman tried to get me to give an answer (re taking the holiday) on the spot, but I suggested she called back the next week. My wife & I talked about and wondered if we should say yes and just brazen it out while we were there. But in the end, we decided it would put too much pressure on us while on the holiday, knowing they would be trying really hard to get us to sign up to a timeshare agreement.

When she called back the next week and I said no, she asked why. I said it's cos I'm not interested in timeshares. She immediately said ok, thanks, bye, and that was that!
Big thanks to Martin Lewis for helping us start to sort out our finances!!!:A

After reading these posts I guess I must have had the same call yesterday but luckily I hung up when he said I had won a holiday to the carribean! I have never entered for a hol to the carribean (too hot for the kids!).
Like toniq said, you should never have to pay towards a genuine win!
Big thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!
  • I just got one of those calls. 4 free flights and 7 nights free accommodation to either Spain, Portugal or the Canaries "Call this freephone number now and they will send you information so you can decide where you want to go" It was also with CLC and Big Prize Draw. They even gave me a winning code number. So, I thought I'd ring the freephone number just to see what its all about because I suspected timeshare anyway. The number he gave me doesn't even work! its not recognised!:confused:

I have had these calls before and have always ignored them. Don't remember entering for a holiday but then again I do enter loads of online comps so couldn't be 100% sure I didn't enter:embarasse

After reading all these posts I realise it was obviously a sales call for a timeshare and I wont be pursuing - as my husband said when I called to tell him " there's no such thing as free in this world"
  • I have been harassed by the Big Prize Draw with phone calls twice a week for the past 2 months. Each time I ask them to remove me from all their databases at which point they hang up on me. Just wrote a letter to PDL - hopefully that will sort it out.

Anyone know who else I can complain to if the letter doesn't work?
