Are there any 85% mortgages about?

We have just been to HSBC as we want to move. They will only do 75% ...which although if we were lucky would get the deposit for this in the sale..it would be pushing it....they dont do %85 which would be ideal for us...however a 90% mortgage has a £1000 fee (which cant go onto your mortgage) and the rate is just under 7% fixed...scary!!

We have been in touch with our financial advisor who is looking into it...but...really..is there no one lending at 85% the value any more???

  • I'd thought I would post a link to the FSA web-site. This is an excellent tool to look for mortgage deals:

    www.fsa.gov.uk/tables/

    Then click on ‘Compare Mortgages’

Being the industry regulator, it lists all the mortgage providers. I found this a really useful tool when remortgaging. You enter the value of the property and the equity you own, and it will show you all mortgages available given your current LTV (loan to value).

Therefore this is the easiest way (I think) to keep abreast of the best deals. If you looking for a fixed rate, you can sort all the providers by initial rate and tie in period etc. I recommend everyone use this as a benchmark before mortgaging.

There are plenty of 85% available. What's yr mortgage?
  • At present we have a tracker mortgage with HSBC...finer details i am unsure of as my hubby dealt with it..

Thanks for the above link.....i was feeling a bit down after the visit to HSBC...but maybe our FA will find us a good 85% mortgage after all

    Most lenders do 85%

I think HSBC are just trying to cherry pick the low loan to value stuff
