http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009/feb/18/peter-mandelson-starbucks
Speaking at a diplomatic cocktail reception in New York, he said: "Why should I have this guy running down the country? Who the !!!! is he? How the hell are they [Starbucks] doing?"

Quite ironic considering Nu Lab have enthusiastically engineered an economy which is largely based around bankers making money lending money, and then buying Frappucinnos in coffee shops.

Mandy cant really complain when the coffee shops moan about losing 70% of their customers.
  • So it's wrong for the head of Starbucks to voice an opinion about the British economy, but it's ok for Ed Balls to say something along similar lines? Eh?
  • Mandelson and the rest of the Nu Labour Reich are rattled and rapidly losing the plot. They know electoral oblivion awaits them next year.

I took the starbucks comments to mean that us in the uk stopped spending sooner.Ie protecting ourselves from more financial hardship.
He was i believe saying that the uk is a concern for their business as we are reducing our spending.

    I took mandelson s comments to mean that he is a d i c k
Life is short, smile while you still have teeth :D
  • This sort of thing from Mandelson just looks desperate, gets the original comments more publicity and gives people more reason to believe them.

Not nice, and not clever. But that's what we get from this govt, who are terrified of anyone expressing an opinion that doesn't fit exactly with whatever has been officially sanctioned by The Party.
  • Mandelson heard Schultz's remarks while waiting to appear on the same television show and, once on screen, immediately took him to task.

"The UK is not spiralling, although I've noticed Starbucks is in a great deal of trouble – but that might be because of their over-expansion given the state of the market," he said.

"So please don't project Starbucks on to the UK economy as a whole."

I thought that was quite reasonable - and probably true

I find the post-rationalism hilarious. As if
    1. Only bankers buy coffee
    2. Bankers buying coffee was a long-term labour plan
    3. An economy based around bankers making money should be associated with labour, as opposed to any other party
