Can anyone tell me why it is that when you are in financial difficulties and you are doing everything you can to overcome significant hurdles, banking and financial institutions become more arrogant, overbearing, rude and inconsiderate than ever before?
As far as I was aware, banks and similar businesses subscribe to the Banking Code, which states that if you are experiencing severe financial difficulties that they will treat you in a positive and sympathetic manner - well, still waiting.
What is everyone elses experience of advising banks that you can't pay and trying to negotiate repayment plans?

incompetence but then I expect them to cash my checks, pay out the ones I write when there is loads of money there and not charge me £20 to do a £50 bacs transfer.
I guess I have high hopes for what are just sales monkeys these days at the RBS.0 -
Problem is you are having a rough time when the banks are also suffering. If you needed help when they had money to freely lend, they could well have been more generous.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. When the sun shines they offer you the umbrella, when it rains they want it back again, always been the case. The trouble is it's p1ssing down and they need more than an umbrella now.I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0

The core tenets of initiatives such as the Banking Code rarely get to the front line.
Ring and ask any organisation (not just Banks) to speak with thier Data Protection Officer as you are fed up receiving unsolicited emails and the unsubscribe fails. You will get a blank silence as no one ever knows who the DP nominee is in thier firm.
Rules and mission statements rarely trickle down to the coal face.
BT's Chief Exec says outstanding service is now thier core aim, but I find the exact opposite re my business phones, Again the sentiment from the Generals simply doesnt effectively get to the tropps.
This will ever be thus as those at the top are generaly incapable of understanding the delivey mechanism.0 -
Is it best then to complain about poor treatment, inadequate handling of your issues and general bad manners?
The problem is that you end up speaking to the monkey not the organ grinder, who can only work to scripts, unless the Collections team are in India and don't understand the words "redundant" or "insolvent" or "post-natal depression" - fantastic.
I have decided to stand up for myself. I am not a bad person, I am not out to "cause trouble for the financial institutions", I just need to speak to a competent person with a certain amount of decision making capability. What is the point of the Banking Code if you are going to completely ignore the core principles anyway?
