  • a few years ago i made a under the sea scene for my nieces school

it was basically a shoe box turned on its side with one long side cut off so the top is open iykwim. i got my neice to paint inside the box half yellow (for sand) half blue (water) then she stuck little fishes she had drawn and cut out inside the box.

cut some sponge roughly and stick in both corners. then paint 2 eggs and paint faces on. stick 8 pipe cleaners underneath and you have 2 octopusses. we then stuck these to the sponges, which resemble a coral.

we finished it off by sticking green crepe paper to the bottom and pulling up to form plants and had some more fishes dangling by securing to string attached across the top of the box.

it looked really good (if i say so myself) and she won 1st prize!

also when i was younger my friends mum made a thomas the tank engine with teh egg as the face using cardboard to make the flat sides and a toilet roll tube, she stopped it toppling by putting a lump of blue tack in the back end. it looked very good, but was far too tricky for me to recreate
  • Things a child will know is always good, is it a competition? Here are ideas off the top of my head:
-Harry Potter (you could do a couple e.g. harry, ron and hermione, this wouldn't be much harder as they are all the same basic idea (black coat and hat) then just use long brown wool hair for hermione, red for ron and draw glasses and scar on harry)
    -Various Animals
-Scene with dog, cat and mouse
    -Pretty patterned ones
-Dalek (use part of loo roll tube to support as body)
    -Humpty Dumpty
    -A sheep
