Should I pay my electric bill.......

I currently have an electric bill for £170 which came in a couple of weeks ago, as I plan to move house within the next month should I just pay it or not. How long before they will cut my supply off. I don't intend on staying with the same provider in the rented place.

Will this prevent me from getting my power supply with another provider and also after bankruptcy do you have to go on a pay meter or can you still get your bill quaterly?

I don't think the landlord would be too happy if I started mucking about with putting pre payment meters in his house. I'm hoping the OR will not even let the landlord know I'm bankrupt.

  • usually when moving from one supplier to another, any previous outstanding amounts have to be cleared first

Pay it off, they will just catch up with you eventually and probably have to pay more than what your bill is now. Plus whoever moves into your house after you go will probably get sick of demand letters coming through the door addressed to you.

Ididn't pay mine I owed NPOWER 710 and then when BR went through it was written off anyway and in my new property I am with another provider so if you putting it in BR I wouldn't pay it

I plan to go BR in mid April. I will no longer be in the house that I owe the electricity bill on and will hopefully be with another provider by then.

Does this look bad to the OR if I haven't even been paying for my living expenses nevermind my debts?

AAW if you are going BR I wouldn't pay it, ESPECIALLY if you can't pay for food etc. That is what you are going BR for at the end of the day - save it towards your BR fees.

I agree with sieve, if you can't pay it stick it in your BR.

Spoke to CCCS (bankruptcy team) today and they advised not to pay it. I am however concerned that the OR will be upset that I am managing to pay my Cable, Internet and Landline. All with the same provider and have 2 months left on my contract.

Should I stop paying this also.....it will mean however that I can no longer visit MSE

You could argue that your cable bill is not as expensive as the electricity bill. If you don't have the money, you don't have the money. If you're moving you wouldn't want to be paying the last two months of your cable contract if you are not there.

Remember that you are going to need money for the bankruptcy and lift after BR.
