Debenhams BOGOF twist

I bought a jacket in Debenhams which was 70% off (cost £12). As all 70% off items was BOGOF I had to choose something else. Found some trousers which were also reduced to £12 so had them as free item.

At home decided I hated the trousers. Took them back to Debenhams with receipt and asked to exchange. No probs. Choose some sports wear for OH reduced to £7.50. Assistant told me to buy something else to make upto £12 as she couldn't give me money back. Bought some kitchen wear that was £6 (non sale stock) so had to pay £1.50 difference.

So I ended up with 2 free items and one was non sale.

  • Really? That's impressive! I found the offer a bit annoying because I had several items that were £6 and then some that were £3ish...because you get the cheapest item free I didn't always get best value...

I am surprised the sales assistant didn't just tell you to take the £7.50 item (presume was in 70% discount offer too?) and that's it..you were very lucky! Well done!

If you have multiple items on BOGOF pay for them separately. i.e. two £6 items together then you get £6 worth of free goods. My friend made the cashier refund the lot then put through separately when she realised that the till would just automatically deduct the cheapest items. She had 2 bras @£6, 2 pants @£2. If they all went through together she paid £12 if bras went separate from pants then she paid £8

Yeah, I should have done that! I was distracted by the fact that the sales assistant didn't even realise that 70% discounted ladieswear was on BOGOF. She left me standing at the till upstairs whilst she went downstairs to speak to someone about it!
  • I got some lingerie on 70% off and BOGOF yesterday. They had really good quality stuff; Playtex, Sloggi, Wonderbra, Lepel, etc.

The same principle applies when you are having a meal in a 'Two for One' pub. If you buy four meals costing say, £8.25, £8.25, £7.35 and £7.35 and put them through together in one transaction, the two £7.35 meals will be deducted as 'Two for One' discount and you pay £16.50 altogether. But if you first order the two £8.25 meals and pay for them, you will pay just £8.25 for the two and then after paying, order the two £7.35 meals which you will pay just £7.35 for the two - total amount = £15.60, saving 90p!

I almost always buy most of my lingerie from Debenhams - and usually when it's heavily discounted as it is now. I can't understand why some people would spend over £15 on a bra!

Do they have this offer every year? I've never noticed it before.

Yes, but they don't heavily advertise it.

I always buy my jewellery from Debenhams in their sale, either 70% or 75% off. I'm always getting compliments which I have to spoil by saying 'thanks, only cost my £2!!" doh!!
