The white one is a haemacollagen sponge, it prevents further bleeding and promotes healing of the socket, quite often used after a difficult or surgical extraction

Thanks hun. i like to know these things. I had a question for Dentist lady, but just wanted to leave by the time she'd finished.

My question was....how/who or what to they practice extractions on when they are learning

I've realised I know people on MSE and a few of their real names via facebook but no idea on twitter who people are if they're not using MSE usernames or if I don't know their real name:confused::confused:

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

    They learn on 'phantom heads'

some of these are so good that the material mimics very closely the behavior of real bone.

Once they have their competence they will do extractions under the close supervision of a superior sometimes on patients who are under full general anaesthetic in the dental hospital.
