Well guys and Gals
Its been just over a year since i went BR and i came up for automatic discharge at the weekend, anyone know how soon i should start getting my credit reports to check default dates are correct?
Well its been a tight year for money without the plastic to use, its strange how you notice food and general expenses increasing everytime you go shopping and fuel. My initial figures on SOA were a bit out, fuel cost me £40 a month more than i thought it did and general housekeeping had to go up by £70 due to the price increases on everything. £20 a month was never enough for clothing, £60 just covers it when you properly work out what you really go through in a year with work clothes and pants and socks, couple pairs of shoes, trousers, jeans, t shirts, even just buying them at Asda or matalan it soon adds up. The only expense that went down was mobile phones and that was when i came off a £35 a month contract and went onto pay as you go, now i spend £10 in about 6 weeks.
You can never put aside enough money for car spares and repairs, as something will always come up when you least expect it to, i've probably had to spend about £1,000 on the van in the last year but only had £300ish put aside from my monthly budget for repairs, so that wiped out savings for xmas, holidays, clothing etc.
At times it has been quite tense, 5 months into BR i thought i may get ED as i hadn't heard from the OR for about 3 months and thought they were happy i had helped with all their investigations, however i was called in for another interview with a right !!!!!! and at the end of it i've ended up with a BRU for 3 1/2 years, oh well i did expect it anyway. I didn't end up with an expected IPA even though i had a large pay increase 5 months in and my surplus was in excess of £130, i informed the OR with email and IPOQ they never took action or contacted me again.
My only regret from it all is i should have done it a few years before instead of trying to struggle on, i really wish the BBC would get their facts straight when report on BR as they paint such a bad and inaccurate picture of it all.
I can't fault the CO-OP bank, they have given me a really good service this past year, i also found i didnt really need any other card but the Electron debit card they do, i did get a prepaid mastercard but only used it a few times and have only found i couldn't use the Electron in a few places such as Asda petrol stations pay at pump stations, the odd website and marks and spencers website (found this last week when i ordered some valentines flowers only for them to call me after they accepted my order that they don't do Electron online or on phone orders, they take it instore though).

I got the BRU as basically i had been insolvent in their eyes for 2 years and should have gone BR sooner than i did and trying to struggle through i only ended up increasing my debt. The investigator was a real jobsworth and just kept going back over the same thing time and time again for 3 hours, he was wanting paperwork for the last 2-3 years and wasn't happy i had disposed of anything over a year old, even when i explained the OR only wanted 12 months worth so i ditched the rest when prepared my original paperwork for the SOA and picking up on some real small purchases that were non essential, it took quite a bit of willpower not to punch his lights out as he was a real dweeb and liked his moment of power. i was informed of their intention to take me to court and the expected outcome would be 4+ years for a BRO or i could accept his findings and accept a 3 1/2 year BRU, i could have gone to court but just didn't want the hassle and as my credit rating is shot for 6 years anyway, what difference would the BRU make, not a lot really.
P.S. i added a bit to my 1st posting above since your postingLife is like a game of Snakes & Ladders, i almost made it to the top but now i'm at the bottom again and its a very long ladder to the top. I had it all and now its gone

You sound like me, 7 months into my BR and I now have to go in for a face to face interview this Thursday. Probably will get a BRU but I just want it done.
Congrats on your discharge by the way, can't wait for mine!!"Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, except backwards and in high heels"

Hi empty wallet,
Good news on the year marker - well done!
Just a quick question to ask tho - I've been through the glossary posts and can't find what "BRU" means. Or is it the same as a BRO?

BRU = Bankruptcy restriction Understanding .. if you agree to it (like an IPA)
BRO = Bankruptcy restriction Order... if it has to go to court (like an IPO)

When did you get the first clue they were going to give you a BRU? Was it during the interview or a few weeks later?0

It was pretty much during the interview, really due to the way he kept on going back to December 06 and saying as far as he was concerned i was insolvent then and the extra debts i ran up upto feb 08 (when i went BR) was credit taken out when i should have known i had no possibility of paying back, he said he would be sending a report to the Home Secretary (yeah as if) to see whether he wished to persue my case to the stage of BRO. In real terms my debts were small compared with what others have gone BR with.Life is like a game of Snakes & Ladders, i almost made it to the top but now i'm at the bottom again and its a very long ladder to the top.
