changing application deadline

Is there any reason a company might extend the deadline for applications even after it's already been open for several months? I'm considering applying and wondered if it were too much to hope that it might be because they feel they haven't got enough decent people for it...

  • You've got to be in it to win it.

  • It happens for several reasons in my experience. The main one being that the caliber / number of candidates has been poor so by extending it there hoping for some better luck. It also sometimes happens due to a change in the shortlist panel etc and the availability etc i.e. they cant do it was soon as they would like so extend it to prevent people waiting for an answer etc. On the negative I've also seen it done to enable a "preferred" candidate time to get their form in (internal staff or as I have seen in some case a friend of the management).

Just go for it anyhow. Whats the worse that could happen? and its better than wondering what if!

Don't worry, I'm going to! It benefits me hugely, as I now have an extra week to perfect the stupid questions on the form. I was just curious why, that's all.

(Incidentally it's an entry-level position so it won't be an 'internal candiate' thing, and it's unlikely to be for a friend of management in this case - though anything's possible.)
  • It could also be that they have made offers that have been rejected, so need to attract more people in. Or maybe business is booming and they have more places than anticipated - is it the Jobcentre:rotfl: ?
