  • You say OH has specialist diet.....is that to control diabetes? If so if you look at eating a low gi diet or similar, you should find that you still can cut back considerably on your grocery budget. I can give you more info on this if you need it.
We are a family of 5 (1 diet controlled diabetic included) and spend around £250 per month on food (and that includes me buying considerable multiple items when they are on offer!)
  • Hi
OH is ceoliac - he gets bread and pasta on prescription. The trouble is all the special offers and really cheap food usually have gluten in them - breadcrumbs or wheatflour etc. Thats why its mince, beans and chicken lol. Thats a slight exageration ;) , but I do get a bit fed up of seeing all the bogof etc for sausages or fish fingers or breaded chicken etc and he can't eat any of those. We do get free from type things but I find they are a bit more expensive, and have never seen them on special offers. I have noticed our food bill go up more than it would if we could eat anything. I haunt the old style boards for recipes and substitute as much as poss, but it is quite difficult.
I do a monthly big shop, having planned my meals ahead - so no impulse buys - then just get bread, milk fresh veg as needed.
