Whoever told you that Palladium would go up in price after the hallmarks come in was lying or stupid. Also thewy were probably trying to get a quick sale and told you this to put pressure onto you. The only other reason they would have said it is if they are planning to trick their customers into thinking a hallmark adds value. It doesn't.
A hallmark is the oldest form of consummer protection and is there simply to guarantee the purity of the metal and tell you who made the ring and when.
The reason Palladium is cheaper than platinum is because it is more abundant in the ground. Platinum is very very rare and that's why its expensive.
Wedding Ring speciallists like Smooch Rings will explain the differences between the two metals and explain the relative advantages.
Basically Palladium has all the advantages of platinum at a fraction of the price. If you were to buy a ring in platinum for £500 the same ring in palladium would be around £200. Nuff said?
Always check with an independant source before buying something - especially when it means you are being rushed into making a decision0 -
the rumour about hallmarking has been around a LONG time.
palladium is historically cheap at the moment so it is a pretty good time to buy at the moment.
The vast majority of palladium (and platinum) that comes out of the ground is used in auto catalytic convertors, not jewellery, so it is demand for cars that drives the price rather than jewellery. at the moment the recession means very few new cars are being made, so much less demand for these metals, which is why the price is so low at the moment.0
