Thanks Steve, you really got me thinking now on the hydrid bikes, a cross between a racer and a mountain bike. These must be quite new as Ive never heard of them before.
Going to visit my local branch at the weekend. What frame size is standard, im male 5ft 10.

I am 5'11" and 56cm was the most common recommendation I received when buying my "sunday" bike. However I do also have a 60cm road bike that I recently converted from to a hybrid so there are no hard and fast answer.

My opinion is that if you are buying a bike you will spend a whole day on then the fit must be perfect. However for 2-3 hours then you can afford for it to be not quite so perfect, allowing you the flexibility to go after the bargains.

You can after all buy a new handlebar stem off EBAY for < £5 if you need to change the distance from the saddle to handlebar to make it more comfortable
  • I'm 5ft10 and was recommended a 54cm frame... I'm considering the Kona Dew, I cycle 2 miles on road a day and around 3 miles a day on rougher roads every other day. Other than that I don't use the bike off road or on mountain biking style terrain.

    Any opinions on this bike?

(thank you to the poster who sent me to the evans cycles page, I love them! they fitted my helmet and accessories on my current bike).

I did exactly the same on Saturday. Went to my local Bike shop In Basingstoke, and they also suggested the same bike. I hadn't heard of them at all. It was slightly annoying as they didn't have any of the Bikes I had looked at online before.

I still can't decide what to go for. The bike I like online (Mongoose Crossway 350) I can't find anywhere to try, and I am worried about buying a bike with out seeing it and checking it for size first.
  • That python really look the part doent it, he said he would knock a tenner off, but once thats gone they are £260.
He did suggest a mountain which was on offer and cheaper, but I have my heart on a Hybrid now.
Just want to see a review
  • Hi
The guy who was going to sell me the GT for £100 bought it in today and said I could have it as its taking room in his house. When I seen it I was shocked, it is immaclate, its not been used, the tyres have the full grip. Anyway I say I would give him something for it. Gave £15 that I had in my wallet and had it serviced for £20 so in all cost me £35. I dont really know why I had it serviced, maybe for piece of mind.
Going to go for a proper ride on Saturday and see how it goes.
