Homemade pickling vinegar

As it's in season I have in mind to make some beetroot chutney.
I've got plenty of white vinegar and thought I could make my own pickling vinegar but am unsure what to do. I'm fairly sure I have pickling spice. The recipe calls for a pint of white pickling vinegar.
Please could anyone advise me what to do and quantities?
