Do you REALLY need one for everyone?
Am thinking of just getting a small caricature type cake to cut and just for the top table, I did a quick straw poll of friends and no one really likes wedding cake and most wouldnt notice if it wasnt served, after a 3 course meal...
Its just some seem to be £100s and the ickle cupcake things I originally wanted work out even dearer when combined with a top cake of any substance...

What about a couple of these?

They also do a cookie cake which is not much more expensive. Would be a cheap option and who does not like cookies????JeremyMarried 9th May 20090 -
why not have a cake/ pudding that could be served as the afters as part of the 3 courses?

or a chocolate fudge cake?0 -
Or you could do as my chum is doing and have a trio of desserts instead because she can't abide wedding cake either.
Or you could serve a cheesecake which is made up of cheese and is savoury as opposed to being sweet.

Or you could have whatever flavour cake you like. My mil2b has offered to make mine, I agreed without giving it a second thought, and today the phrase fruit cake has been mentioned more than once. This might be traditional as a wedding cake, but no one likes the blasted stuff. I am hoping I cna persuade her to make a chocolate or lemon sponge, otherwise we might be coming to blows already....I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

2 of our friends had little fairy cakes they made and iced theirselves and had some little choc cornflake cakes also all arranged on a cake stand went down very well - I ate loads of them as I love cake.0

We're going for 3 tiers - one in fruit cake from M&S (my mum also thinks we HAVE to have it)...the middle in chocolate (from Waitrose - I've found they do one with white icing), the top as a sponge, from M&S again.
Stand is from ebay (will sell it afterwards) and will decorate it myself so it's working out only about £100
I was looking for other options - found the most amazing looking cheesecake company called the English Cheesecake Company...if it wasn't the height of summer and difficult to organise I'd have gone for a selection of cheesecakes instead.
We're planning to serve our cake alongside the buffet in the evening...0 -
I am having as many cakes as I can afford (assuming I get married!) of various sorts because cake is my favourite thing, my friends and family are fussy eaters and I hate people not having any pudding cos they don't like what is available.
So far I am at least having:
Chocalate cake
Victoria sponge
Strawberry gateau
Chocolate Brownie
Apple cake
Gluten free cake
Lemon meringue pie
banoffee pie
Banana cake
new york cheescake
If we can acquire it jam and coconut sponge.
I can't wait!0 -
Do Tescos still do the 3 sizes fruit cakes that you can use as wedding cakes? I am starting to panic that they don't do them anymore!Lydia

eeee fruit cake its like eating sawdust

I can't really have chocolate cake as my mum doesn't like chocolate
so I might just go for a dessert instead of a wedding cake but not sure what yet

If you don't want one don't have it. It's your day so you get to do WTH you like!
I find most people only nibble bits of cake. After a huge meal and a load of booze they don't want cake. A token cake or symbolic cake like fairy cakes sounds like a great idea.0
