Hi, I've been paying a debt collector for a credit car d debt for around 2 years, always on time, suddenly two weeks ago another debt collector, Capquest send me a letter demanding full payment, never dealt with them before.

Sent a letter back to Capquest saying already in debt management plan with company Y, they ignored this and sent another letter threatening to take house, like to see them try seeing as it's owned by the council.

Anyway what's the score here, I thought it was illegal for a claimant to use two debt collectors to collect a debt? I've not heard anything from original debt company (Direct Legal & Collections) to say they are no longer managing my account, was going to ring them in the morning but wondered if anybody else was/had been in same boat?

Sounds to me as if Egg have sold the debt twice?

Any ideas?

Are the original company the In house collectors for Egg? Have a look on their headed paperwork and see if they are owned by the same company (it has to say somewhere on there if they are part of a group of companies). If so then they have now passed it to an external company. Unfortunately the first you know about this is generally when you get a letter from the new ones. Write to Capquest with details of the arrangement you already have and offer them the same payment. They should accept this.

If you are with a debt management company then let them know and they will send your paperwork to Crapquest, so you should have no reason to deal directly with them.

Thanks, I'll fire off the usual DMP proposal then, I had a suspicion the original company was part of Egg because all the time they managed my "account" the payments I was making were being credited to my Egg online "Account".

I havn't heard anything from the original collections company since they wrote saying they may sell on the debt, so I'll assume they have then and blame Crapquest if it all goes tits up.

Unfortunately my income wasn't enough for Payplan to manage my debt, so they just advise, but I find the Payplan reference on the top of letters opens a lot of doors
I'm just waiting for one of them to petition to make me bky, can't afford the fees myself, no assets etc.

My debt free date was 2062 last time I checked
gotta laugh about it or I'd do something stupid.

I have been looking for this thread for ages.

I am currently paying off a overdraft to Mercers from and old HSBC overdraft, i have been doing this for over a year now. I have also paid off an old credit card from HSBC through Apex credit management.

I work away at sea and just after i came away my girlfriend recieved a letter from DLC saying i owe 450, for an old HSBC account.

So the advice i really need is what to do next. I have sent off a letter to asks who they are collecting on behalf of and a letter to stop telephone harrassment (to one of my relatives).

Now if the Debt they are asking for is the one i am currently still paying to Mercers what do i need to, and what letters may i need to send off?

Secondly if the Debt they are asking for is the old HSBC credit card already paid off to Apex what do i need to do and what letters may i need to send off?

I am in a good posistion to pay this debt off but i will not pay the same debt twice, and secondly i will not start to pay DLC while i am still paying Mercers, this standing order mandate with Mercers is not due to finish until next year.
I am also concerned about my record as DLC said if i dont pay it will be noted on my credit history.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
