    Hello Peeps :hello:

I have a question regarding 2 ingredients in this recipe,

2 teasp cumin > I only have cumin seeds, can I use them?

200g Porridge oats > Can I use ready brek instead?

    Thanks

This sounds nice, can you post the recipe please?

I wouldn't use readybrek, try breadcrumbs - make a 'vegetable betty'. I would think cumin seeds would be nice, I might fry them a little first.

I use value porridge oats - cheap and good.

    Hi 10past6.

I've added your post to the original 'crumble help' thread where the op is more likely to see your questions.

moanymoany, the original recipe that 10past6 is referring to is post #6 in this thread.

  • Hi all,

I was reading lots of your mouth watering crumble recipes but alas, I need a healthy recipe that won't make me pile on the pounds. Does anyone have a crumble topping recipe that isn't so fattening and much more healthy than the traditional (but oh so delicious) butter, flour and sugar combo?

    Thanks,
    Hayley

i put oats in mine...use unrefined sugar...use fruit that doesnt need sugar adding or fruit tinned in juice but alas i dont think a dish with fat sugar and carbohydrate will ever be healthy....im very happy for someone to explain to me how it could be healthy though:p

I'm tucking into rhubarb crumble now and it has no sugar or flour in it ;)

  • Well, you could top it with something more healthy but then it wouldn't be crumble would it?

My ds2 made crumble at school and used 200g of flour to 50g of butter. I always use twice as much flour to butter. His was really horrible -lol, all floury and loose. So, if you cut down on the butter you'll just end up with a floury mess.

I think you'd be better off making a nice fruit salad or a fruit compote because they're healthy the way they're meant to be IYKWIM. I know I'd be better off eating fruit salad than eating crumble.

    tell me too:)

    I'm a low carber.

So I make rhubarb crumble as so:

    Bag of frozen rhubarb, defrosted.
    Sprinkle of sweetner (not much)
Food process ground almonds with cold butter to make crumble
Sprinkle over fruit, sprinkle ground ginger over the top (I like plenty)

Bake until brown and the fruit is bubbling.

Serve with lots of clotted cream.

And I'll weigh less tomorrow than I do today ;)
