Cutting edges is 5 really better than three?

Not sure where this should go, so mods pse place where you want.
Wasting time whilst OH was searching I looked at the refill blades for Razors. I was surprised that some wet shave blades contain 5 cutters. I've only got as far as 3 in my. Are five blades going over a face really better than 3 or any other lesser number than 5? Does a 8x3 blade replacement & £5.70 really give less value than an 8*5 blade replacement @£14.70?
Sceptical me thinks 'hype'. Am I misled?
