New Star

I have a pension which has had New Star Active Portfolio as one of its funds for about two years. New Star has taken a real hammering recently and the fund's unit price is about two thirds of what it was a year ago. I have a standing order so am still buying the units at the much lower price. However, given the problems at New Star, should I get out or keep on investing?

The problems at New Star do not relate to the value of your investments. Until they change fund managers.

By the way 2 weeks ago NS announced acquisition.
Henderson Group plc (Henderson) has announced an offer to acquire New Star Asset Management Group plc (New Star). Subject to a number of shareholder and regulatory authority approvals, the deal should be completed by early April 2009.

I've never heard of Henderson so I wouldn't mind some views or information about them? (Ed, dunston... <3) Or what they might do...?

Hendersons were once a very good fund house. Then they got bought by AMP and found themselves part of the Pearl/NPI group and suffered during that period. When AMP abandoned the UK after draining Pearl, NPI and every other UK company it owned if its money, it demerged Hendersons. Hendersons then sold off Pearl and went back to being just a fund house again. A bit of a merry go round really. Since then they have started to get back to where they used to be. They have quite a lot of focus on the different fixed interest sectors.

Ok cool thanks. I wonder if Mark Harris is going to get shifted hm.

Do you think (not personal opinion, just general knowledge as I have never known of a takeover of asset management company) they will merge funds together, keep them seperate or what? Or could it do anything and won't find out until the acquisition is complete?

There have been loads over the years. Many old names have gone and others have names you now take for granted. Invesco and perpetual. Blackrock and Merrill Lynch for example.

I would suspect that they will look to consolidate where there is overlap.
