Civil service pension scheme - Preserved pension

I contributed to the CSPS for 11 years before leaving in 1991 following the birth of my son. I didn't work for a few years but have since been working for local government and I chose not to transfer my old pension over, not sure if that was right decision as to be honest never really understood the whole pension thing
My question is really concerning my old pension as I chose to preserve and defer it back in 1991. I have not received any further correspondence concerning this pension. I did move but they did have my new address as I received the letter concerning my preserved pension at my new address. Should I have been receiving annual statements from them? A family member receives annual statements from a pension scheme he left some years ago. Any ideas who I should contact? Thanks for any help.

There is no statutory requirement to issue annual statements to deferred pensioners. Some schemes do, but there's really no point. Your entitlement was calculated when you left and that increases in line with RPI (roughly, inflation) until you draw it.
It is what it is and I would guess you don't need to be told the same information every year

No. It is not an investment so it does go up and down and require statements to be sent.

Theirs is probably money purchase (investments).Any ideas who I should contact?
Just contact the administrator for the civil service scheme and ask them. The address on your docs should be the same.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

Capita Hartshead can provide you with an annual statement of the value of your pension. If you left the Civil Service before October 2002 and have not been in touch with Capita Hartshead since they became responsible for paying Civil Service pensions, it would be a good idea to write to them now, quoting your National Insurance number. This is so they can note your current address and begin to send you annual statements of the current value of your deferred pension benefits.

You can also view the current value of your deferred pension benefits by registering with the pensioner website. Please visit csp.capitahartshead.co.uk[External website] for further details.0 -
