Money I dont owe!!!

Hi I'm not sureif this is in the right place i ahve Buchanan clark and wells Chasing me for utilities for an address i moved out of over 2yrs ago. i have so far sentthem a letter stating when i moved out of the property and sent a copy of my new tenancy agreement as proof of where i was living my tenancy agreement is dated the 01/10/06. Buchanan is asking for a payment for a period of supply between 20/09/2006 - 09/12/2006 for electric and the 27/09/2006 - 16/07/2007 for gasthe toal for both bills comes to about £300 the final meter readingswere given to southern electric by myself and as far as i know he bill was paid by the ex husand unfortunately he no longer has the paid stamped bill after this time and when i left my husband he switched to british gas and was paying them for supplies on these dates after 2 yrs i no longer have these final meter readings.so i offered to pay a prota sum calculated on a daily usage up until the day i moved out seemed fare to me. but they have just ignored my letter and are now threatening to take me to court. What can i do, this is getting really frustrating and i know i dont owe this money i also know that they chased my husband for a time for the same sums but had to drop it as he had been paying british gas and he eventually went to the ombudsman to get rid of them. i cannot now go back to southern electric and this company has bought the debt and they seem completly unwilling to listen and continue to harrass me.

Please Help !!!!

Thank you for listening :-)

Surely if you had owed SE money they would not have let the account be transfered to another company?

Just a thought. Unless these were for the final bills of course?

    Hi

You need to go back to Southern electric. They have to keep records for 6 years. And get the ombudsman involved if necessary.

if that happens, send them a subject access request and advise them that they are pursuing you for a debt you do not owe. You will be contacting the ombudsman unless they sort it NOW.
