BT Voyager digital media player

"Winner of one of the best innovations in the online internet product category at the CES show, Las Vegas 2003."

Play your PC music files ( iTunes & Mp3's etc), and tune into internet radio stations from across the world ....anywhere in your home. The BT Voyager Digital Media Player is the first portable internet radio that connects wirelessly to your computer from anywhere in the house or garden (within a range of 100 metres).

The Voyager Digital Music Player works as an Intelligent extension speaker to your PC (it comes complete with a USB Pod that processes all the audio material). Anything you can listen to on your PC you can listen to (or stream) through the Voyager Digital Music Player wirelessly. You can play CD's, Music files (e.g. MP3/Wav files), and your Itunes library as well as internet radio.

The Voyager Digital Music Player's control panel allows you to switch between internet radio, music file, CD and lets you skip radio stations, tracks and albums.

This means you can listen to the music stored on your PC (music files) or listen to internet radio in a different room to your PC (up to 100 metres). The Voyager Digital Music Player can also still play your music while you use your PC for gaming, emailing, watching DVDs etc.

My question is - Is this as good as a DAB Radio or wouldn't it be as good?

    Anyone?

I suspect that's why it's so cheap - it's almost obsolete. Streaming audio from the web is not as good as DAB by a long way. If this thing had DAB as well, then it'd be great! Of course, if you just want it to listen to your MP3 library that's stashed on your PC around the house, perfect!

  • The unit is very unresponsive, the user interface supplied very unintuitive and the set up program requires you to go back to windows and manually change the default sound device back you your original source other than the newly installed dmp device.

As for what it does, yes it's not bad at streaming music from your pc, as long as the pc is switched on and the voyager transmitter plugged into the usb port.

It does emit a hissing sound at low volume, which can be quite annoying, but allows me to stream many more radio station formats than my Netgear MP101 could do.

Still probably worth a pop at this price as an intro to streaming music without the need for any wireless networking kit, and handy as you can move it from room to room.

Just would like to say be careful with the voyager router if you are using it for gaming as there is hugeproblems with the security. We had one h=and had to get rid of it- if you do a goggle search under problems withy bt voyager router you will see what I mean. It seems an ok router just for normal computer to computer use.
