Decent Curry

Options
If you like a supermarket curry from, for example, Tesco, Sainsburys etc, try the canned variety rather than the chilled products. Many taste as good or better than the chilled and often only a third the price for the same quantity. You may need boil rice, but even this works out at only about £1.50 for a man size meal rather than about £4 for the chilled versions. Be interested in what others think.

  • When we need something quick to eat we have always got a couple of cans of Tesco Vegetable Curry in a mild curry sauce in the cupboard to fall back on. We have only had it with jacket potato but it is quite tasty. Bought it on recommendation from a stranger I got talking to in the aisle in Tescos.

Hi - thought I would add my pennyworth - Lidl's chilled curry is about £1.79 (with rice) at the moment and it's great tasting. As good as the main brand supermarkets - plus you can freeze it! Will try out the tinned ones though. THanks for that- good standby.

  • Hi - Asda do a good tinned chicken tikka massala. Fab with quick pilau rice (microwave stuff).

If you have an Asian shop near you, you can buy a pack of poppodoms (cost about £1) to fry to really make it feel like a decent meal in.

  • Agree with mineallmine, Asian supermarkets do curries at a fraction of the price try a search for 'Mae ploy' or 'chinese supermarket'.

1 kg you can usually get for £2.90 compared with 400 g at £2.90 in the supermarkets.

Scroll down to the fifth item and change the drop down menu:

Try a search for a local store though.
  • Newbury Boy, Sorry, just posted something similar regarding take-aways. You were 1st. Can't delete my post for some reason. Sorry and thanks.
